Three Way Linking - Legitimate or Manipulative?
Three way linking is the process of you linking to Site B, Site B linking to Site C, and then Site C linking back to you. This is a commonSEO Link Building technique, but not one DomainDrivers engages in without serious scrutiny. 3 way links are often created tomanipulate Google search engine results pages (SERPS) or Page Rank. If this is the intention, then this practice is frownedupon by Google and the other search engines. Here's a quote from Google:
The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to you can provide context about the subject
matter of your site, and can indicate its quality and popularity. However, some webmasters engage in link exchange schemes and build partner
pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it
will have on their sites. This is in violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact your site’s ranking in search results.
We agree! Especially because of this passage: "...disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it
will have on their sites..." Where ever you look on this DomainDrivers website you will see our position on SEO link building: It is conducted to promote your
website to others as to attract potential customers to your store. It's Business 101: Whether you are nailing flyers on telephone poles, mailing
brochures, link building, or simply talking to people, everything you do should have a legitimate purpose in branding your business.

3 Way Links - The Right Way
Three way linking strategies do have a legitimate business purpose. Here's an example. Say a company has a site that focuses on providing information
on how widgets are produced and also has a site where they sell widgets and widget related accessories. This website owner understands the power of proper,
"white hat" reciprocal linking and would like to use that technique to promote their e-commerce site. However, the e-commerce template website they use does not
easily lend itself to link directories. It may also be the case where the e-commerce site content layout does not provide a contectual method to cite other
websites.
In this case a three way linking strategy makes sense. From the company's information website, they cite other theme-related websites that contain content they
believe would be of value to their site visitors. In return, that linked site would link to the e-commerce site. Perfectly fine! A legitimate business reason exists for
this relationship. And...the true test...you would engage in that relationship even if Google did not exist.
