Keyword Analysis for Real Estate Websites
We have entitled our page Keyword Analysis for Real Estate Websites, but don't run away if you are not in the real estate industry. These tips and tricks apply to all website search engine optimization (SEO)...if you are serious about promoting your website on the Internet, you MUST start with a thorough keyword analysis.
If the term "keyword" is not clear in your mind, think in terms of the text a searcher would enter into the search box in Google or any other search engine. The search phrase, is the keyword; or if you prefer the keyword phrase. It is your job to determine what these search phrases are likely to be for your website content, then to match up your website content page with the appropriate keyword. This exercise is known as the "keyword analysis for real estate sites" and lays the foundation for all seo for real estate websites.
Starting Your Keyword Analysis
In order to determine your keywords, your need a tool to help you. There are many tools available for a cost like: keywordspy, and keyword discovery, but we like the free tool from Google. If you haven't already done so, sign up for a Google account so you have more flexiblility when using the tool. You should have an account for examing your Google analytics as well. You can access the tool here:
Google Keyword Suggestion Tool.
You will then sign in, but you can use the tool for free. On the navigation menu, click the Reporting and Tools tab, then select Keyword Tool. This is available to everyone for free, but if you are not logged in, you will have to enter a code and you will have limited flexibility in the column heads and the downloading facility. So we recommend getting an account, if you have Gmail already, you can log in with your Gmail email account.
Begin by entering some keywords in the Word or phrase (one per line) text box. Usually you start the seo for real estate websites by entering in the city, state code and then "real estate", "homes for sale", and so on. Don't worry about entering too many terms because this tool will make suggestions. We call these starter terms, the "seed words".
Here's a tip: we recommend that you click the box alongside [Exact] under Match Types. This returns values for the exact term you enter, all the words in the order written.
Then click the Colums tab on the far right of the screen.
Inside this drop-down box, click to select the Competiton, the Local Monthly Searches (US only, select Global for the world), and the Approximate CPC. We are not interested in Pay Per Click at this time, but by selecting the Approximate CPC we can use this metric to help gauge competition and other's interest in the keywords. Note: if you are not logged in you probably will not be able to access this menu. A sharper focus on your results can be achieved by finding the Real Estate slection under the Categories drop-down list on the far left side of the screen. Select that option to begin the search. When you are logged in, the results apear in two sections, the top section are your seed terms, the bottom half are Google's suggestions. To work comfortably with this list, download the top half into a spreadsheet and change the text to bold. This allows you to easily identifiy your seed words later on. Now download the bottom half into the same spreadsheet. There will be may terms that are not relevant including generic terms like "real estate" or suggestions for towns out of your MLS area. Sort by highest search terms and the junk will rise to the top. Delete all the terms that do not apply to you. Fine tune this list down to a reasonable list. Now the fun begins.
Selecting Your Best Keyword Terms
Next, sort the list by lowest competition and then by highest search totals. Focus on terms that have a competition level below .50 and a search total above 1000. These keywords offer the "low hanging fruit", especially when you find terms with competition numbers below .30. Make sure these terms are relevant to your business and incorporate them into your keyword strategy.
As you analyze your list, you will get to understand how these keywords drive your entire real estate website seo strategy. These keywords are the building blocks for your website page file names, page titles, meta description, and page content.
